I had been at Profile for about a week and not one kid had attempted to be my friend. Everyone welcomed me into the school, but not so much into their friend groups. Then one day, while I was listening to music and reading, a student came up to me and said, “Hey, why stay here all alone? Come over here!” He attempted to be my friend and introduced me to his group. If it wasn’t for that one kid, I would probably still be sitting in that spot every morning. Most kids in most schools (and I have seen a lot!) aren’t very accepting, they have their set friend groups and that is that. Then there are those once-in-a-blue-moon opportunities when someone steps up. If everyone in the school community did this, it could be so much better.
